Band on the Wall, a prominent live music venue in Manchester, is set to inaugurate a new venue, The Copper Bar, this month. Inspired by the iconic Zinc Bar in New York City, The Copper Bar promises a unique experience with its welcoming, inclusive, and intimate atmosphere.
The Copper Bar, featuring a striking copper bar-top and Brooklyn-themed neon lights, is embedded in the rich history of Band on the Wall, Manchester’s oldest music venue. This new establishment will boast bespoke art, including a hand-painted mural by Manchester artist Qubek and curated collages from the venue’s extensive archive. Patrons can expect an environment adorned with various memorabilia, enhancing the aesthetic and cultural appeal of the bar.
The Copper Bar also houses Band on the Wall’s second stage, a space created during a £3.5 million redevelopment two years ago. This stage will play host to a range of artists, from local groups like Elf Traps and Club Clam to international talents such as French-Caribbean singer Adi Oasis. This addition aims to celebrate and support the diverse and creative community that has flourished around Band on the Wall’s eclectic programming.
The new branding for The Copper Bar has been developed by Manchester’s Instruct Studio, a team that has been collaborating with Band on the Wall since its rebranding two years ago. Notably, the bar will serve Stonewall Inn IPA beer, symbolising a partnership with the Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI) and Brooklyn Brewery.
The opening of The Copper Bar represents a forward-thinking approach to combining historical significance with modern artistic expression. It signals Band on the Wall’s commitment to providing an inclusive space that celebrates both local and international music scenes.
The Copper Bar is poised to become a significant addition to Manchester’s vibrant music and nightlife scene, paying homage to its NY jazz inspirations while fostering a diverse and creative community.
