The highly anticipated plans for the state-of-the-art £65 million Multiversity campus in Blackpool have been unveiled. The development promises to transform the town centre, drawing in thousands of students and revitalising the local economy.
The proposed Multiversity campus is set to become a cornerstone for higher education in Blackpool, accommodating Blackpool and The Fylde College. This new facility will host approximately 3,000 students and staff, enhancing the academic landscape with a diverse array of over 70 courses tailored to meet local employment needs. Its completion marks a significant step forward in the town’s educational offerings.
Cllr Lynn Williams, Blackpool Council leader, stated, “The development will bring thousands into the area and provide a green space that complements similar initiatives nearby.” This is set to enhance urban liveability and provide residents and visitors with a refreshing natural retreat within the town centre.
Staff and students will benefit from a range of amenities, including a secure cycle storage, promoting eco-friendly commuting options alongside limited vehicular parking facilities. These features collectively highlight the commitment to fostering a sustainable future for Blackpool.
Phase one of the project focuses on delivering the primary educational facilities, while phase two allows for future expansions, potentially accommodating either additional college facilities or office spaces within the Talbot Gateway area.

The recently opened 144-bedroom Holiday Inn and Marco Pierre White restaurant contribute to this vibrant redevelopment, alongside infrastructure improvements like the tram-train interchange, which enhances connectivity within the region.
With substantial government backing, including a £9 million grant and £40 million construction funding, the Multiversity project is expected to catalyse further growth and innovation, setting a benchmark for future developments in Blackpool.
