The head of East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, Miranda Barker, is set to speak at an upcoming event focusing on the county’s expanding tech sector.
Miranda Barker, who succeeded long-serving chief executive Mike Damms, will be a speaker at the event titled ‘Lancashire’s Untold Digital Story’ on November 14. Damms retired in 2017 after 23 years of service. Barker will join a distinguished group of speakers, including Utiligroup CEO Matthew Hirst, ROQ co-founder Stephen Johnson, Digital Lancashire chair Michael Gibson, AMS Neve founder Mark Crabtree, and Chorley Council chief executive Gary Hall.
Lancashire has undergone a significant transformation from its historical role in the cotton industry, which once employed 440,000 people and produced half of the world’s cotton. Currently, the county is at the forefront of digital and technological advancements. Earlier this year, Lancashire demonstrated its ambitions by launching the UK’s first Digital Skills Partnership, prioritising the improvement of skill levels. This initiative included Google’s commitment to train 1,000 individuals and businesses through its Digital Garage programme.
Today, Lancashire is leading the digital revolution with universities bridging the gap between education and the business world, state-of-the-art companies pioneering technological innovations, and proactive local authorities driving progress.
The upcoming half-day conference, ‘Lancashire’s Untold Digital Story,’ aims to explore the various facets of the county’s digital evolution and provide insights into its future trajectory.
Barker’s participation in the event underscores the importance of leadership in fostering the region’s technological growth. The conference promises to offer valuable perspectives on Lancashire’s vibrant digital sector.
