The BBC Director-General recently marked the third anniversary of the corporation’s 5-year production commitment with the North East Screen Partnership.
The commitment has created numerous jobs and significant financial value while aiming to develop a thriving production sector in the region.
Commitment to Investment
As part of its commitment, the BBC aims to exceed £25m investment in the North East by 2026. So far, it has created 293 local jobs and contributed £18.6m value, targeting a £50m per year production sector by 2027.
Director-General’s Visit
Tim Davie, Director-General of the BBC, marked the anniversary with a visit to Darlington, where he met with local industry personnel and well-known figures such as Sara Davies, Charlotte Crosby, and Vicky Pattison.

Davies stated, ‘We need to ensure that production talent is preserved, nurtured, and supported in the region.’

Gwynn added, ‘We are fostering a sustainable screen industry in the North East, attracting productions from major platforms and generating significant regional employment.’
