Manchester Science Park celebrates a new milestone with the opening of the Bright Building. This £14 million investment represents a significant stride in fostering innovation and collaboration.

The Bright Building, a 70,000 sq ft hub, heralds a new chapter at Manchester Science Park. Officially open as of 21 September, it’s a beacon of innovation and collaboration. The presence of Ricardo, a leading automotive engineering and environmental consultancy, underscores the building’s prestige and vision.
Rowena Burns, CEO of Manchester Science Partnerships (MSP), expressed immense pride in unveiling the Bright Building. She remarked on the fulfilment of a four-year-old promise to create a space celebrating the scientific and technological brilliance of its residents. Such initiatives reflect MSP’s commitment to innovation.
The Bright Building’s completion signals a strategic milestone for MSP. As the first new structure in over 15 years, it aligns with the plan to expand the science park’s city centre estate to one million sq ft. This facility becomes a vital component in the Oxford Road Corridor’s innovation district.
Positioned as the ‘heart of the Park’, it fosters a community of scientists, technologists, and entrepreneurs. The synergy among over 170 businesses is instrumental in driving growth. This infrastructure supports intellectual exchanges and networks crucial for business expansion.
Jake Berry, Northern Powerhouse Minister, highlighted Greater Manchester’s role in global digital innovation. He praised the Bright Building and Mi-IDEA as pioneers in the Northern Powerhouse initiative. Their contribution significantly enhances the region’s economic landscape, driving digital and creative sectors.
Developed by Bruntwood, MSP’s majority shareholder, the Bright Building houses Mi-IDEA, a collaboration with Cisco. This post-accelerator centre aids start-ups in scaling up and encourages co-innovation with enterprises, academia, and government entities. Unlike traditional accelerators, Mi-IDEA offers flexibility without equity demands.
CityVerve, Innovate UK’s IoT city demonstrator, operates within this structural marvel. The building’s design encourages corporate-startup collaborations, enhancing idea generation. Commendable architectural features also incorporate spaces for events and social interactions, embodying a blend of professional focus and personal well-being.
