Honley Junior and Infant School, a longstanding village institution, has been granted £2,000 to enhance its outdoor play and learning facilities.
The school, which has been integral to the community for nearly 200 years, was awarded the funds through a community fund that twice yearly invites applications from charities and community groups in Yorkshire.
The donation aims to refurbish the school’s outdoor areas, including play, garden, and learning spaces, benefiting all pupils, particularly those with Special Education Needs (SEN). Debbie Whittingham, Regional Sales Director, expressed appreciation for the school’s parent, teacher, and community volunteers who work tirelessly to fundraise for projects that enhance children’s educational experiences.
Whittingham underscored the quality of the applications received and noted that the school’s plans for outdoor restoration made them a deserving recipient. She stated, “We had some superb applications, but felt Honley school were worthy winners in their wish to restore their outdoor areas for all children to be able to learn and enjoy.”
Allison Senior, a spokesperson from the school’s Friends group, highlighted the importance of the refurbishment project and the significant impact the £2,000 donation would have. She commented, “Our outdoor areas have seen better days, and we are very focused on raising the £5000 to complete the project. This donation will make a huge difference and help us to create the outdoor areas we dream of, which are so important in providing a well-balanced education for our children.”
Senior also expressed gratitude and anticipation for the project’s completion, looking forward to welcoming those who supported the initiative once the project is finalised.
The community fund will continue to support diverse projects across the region, with a further £3,000 distributed to other charities in South and West Yorkshire. Applications for the next round of funding open on 16th September.
This financial boost marks a significant step towards enriching the learning environment for Honley Junior and Infant School’s pupils, demonstrating the continual support for community-driven educational projects.
