Founded in 2009 as Software2, this Sherburn-in-Elmet-based company has expanded its reach to serve over three million students across 300 institutions in 22 countries. With ambitious plans, the company aims to extend its services to every student worldwide.

Remaining rooted in Yorkshire, the firm employs 50 individuals across its UK headquarters—located in a converted pub in Sherburn-in-Elmet—and its US head office in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company prides itself on a culture of flexibility, community, and inclusivity.

Diverging from many tech enterprises, the company offers unique benefits, including flexible working arrangements and unlimited holidays. Its commitment to the local community is evident through its support for sports clubs and children’s charities, including UNICEF and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Co-founder and CEO Nick Johnson commented, ‘We’re proud of our growth over the past 15 years and the meaningful work we’ve been able to offer local talent. Our company culture is key to our success, and we’ve always kept that at the forefront of our expansion. Our people are driven by the desire to make a difference and support universities to provide hybrid and flexible learning so that more students can complete a university degree.’

The firm’s technology is leveraged by numerous universities both in the UK and globally. Local institutions such as the University of Manchester, University of Leeds, and Sheffield Hallam, as well as top-ranked global universities including the University of Michigan, Queensland University of Technology, and Imperial College of London, rely on the software to facilitate seamless access to essential applications, thereby fostering academic success.

Johnson further expressed, ‘I’m incredibly proud of the company we’ve built, the growth we’ve achieved, and the positive impact we’ve had on students’ lives. Looking ahead, we’re excited about the future and the innovations we are working on to further simplify software delivery for universities and meet the evolving needs of students.’

The celebration of this 15-year milestone underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing the educational experience for students worldwide. With a focus on innovation and community, the future looks promising.
