Today marks a significant recognition of Yorkshire and Humberside’s burgeoning digital and technology sector, with the unveiling of a new list celebrating the region’s tech stars.
The inaugural ‘101 Yorkshire and Humberside’ tech list has been meticulously compiled through a combination of nominations, recommendations from industry peers, and first-hand research. This list acknowledges a diverse array of businesses across various sectors, encompassing fledgling start-ups and established tech giants. Among the notable entries is the Leeds-based ‘unicorn’ Sky Betting & Gaming.
This revelation coincides with recent data from Tech Nation, which highlights that Leeds’ digital tech sector has now reached a valuation of £1 billion, underscoring the city’s robust economic contributions. Furthermore, it precedes a significant tech event scheduled to be held in Leeds in the coming days.
Editor Chris Maguire remarked, “Leeds has already established itself as a fast-growing tech hub and the jewel in Yorkshire’s crown, but we were very impressed with the innovation that came out of other cities like Sheffield, Harrogate, and Hull. We set out looking for companies doing amazing things with technology – and let’s just say that keeping the list down to 101 was challenging.”
He further emphasised the importance of celebrating regional innovation, stating, “It’s important to us that we celebrate all that the UK has to offer, and Yorkshire is a huge and often unsung area of talent. The list is a mixture of heavyweights and start-ups which are disrupting the tech sector. We’re not saying these are the biggest 101 tech companies in Yorkshire and Humberside but we are saying they’re doing amazing things with tech or are at the heart of the tech community.”
This announcement follows the release of other popular lists, including those recognising FinTech Disrupters, Tech for Good Stars, and AI Innovators.
