A Wiltshire-based transport company, with a history spanning over three decades, has entered administration, marking the end of its operations.

SL Transport UK, a well-established haulage firm, had been operating since 1991. The company recently appointed Richard Cole and Steve Kenny of KBL Advisory to oversee its winding up on 5 September. The firm, which specialised in pallet network and general haulage, operated a fleet comprising heavy vehicles such as articulated lorries.

The company managed four sites in the West Country, including locations in Swindon and Wootton Bassett. SL Transport’s offerings included accommodating various haulage requirements such as curtainsider loads, box trailer, and smaller or partial loads. However, despite its extensive services, the firm faced financial difficulties.

According to unaudited accounts filed at Companies House for the financial year ending 31 December 2022, SL Transport UK turned over £1.9 million but incurred a net loss exceeding £70,000. This was a marked decline from the previous year, when the company reported a turnover of £1.8 million and a profit of £75,000. During this reporting period, the firm employed 22 staff members.

Amid these financial struggles, the company’s phone number and website are no longer operational. Directors Matthew Agass, Thomas Agass, and Jonathan Dando had been at the helm of the company.

The developments underscore the challenges faced by businesses in the transport sector, particularly smaller firms grappling with financial sustainability.

The closure of SL Transport UK illustrates the harsh economic realities facing the haulage industry. Despite a robust track record, the firm’s financial performance ultimately led to its administration.
