Virgin Media O2 to Launch Net Zero HQ in Manchester

Virgin Media O2 is joining Manchester’s green transformation with a new net-zero headquarters.

Virgin Media O2 is set to reinforce its environmental commitment by establishing a new net-zero carbon headquarters in Manchester. This decision stems from a strategic partnership with Island, a workspace developed by HBD and the Greater Manchester Pensions Fund, aimed at creating an office environment that aligns perfectly with modern ecofriendly standards.

In conjunction with the upcoming expiry of its Wythenshawe office lease in early 2026, Virgin Media O2 conducted a thorough review of potential sites within a 10-mile radius of central Manchester. The focus was to identify a location that fosters in-person collaboration while embracing the company’s flexible work policy. The Island workspace, with its strong transport connections and eco-conscious facilities, emerged as the preferred choice, offering a conducive environment for both work and sustainability.

The Island headquarters will cater to Virgin Media O2’s diverse teams, including its multi-skilled customer service division. These facilities promise to support a wide range of activities from sales to specialised customer support services. The emphasis on sustainability is reflected in Island’s anticipated Excellent BREEAM Sustainable Building Certification, which highlights its innovative energy efficiency measures and eco-friendly infrastructure.

The forward-thinking design incorporates substantial solar energy capabilities, real-time energy monitoring, and cutting-edge air quality management systems, all contributing to a healthier and more sustainable workspace. This strategic move not only provides a venue for collaboration but also positions Virgin Media O2 as a leader in adopting environmentally responsible business operations.

Patricia Cobian, Chief Financial Officer of Virgin Media O2, expressed that this investment is a testament to the company’s dedication to Manchester, ensuring that their new office space in the city becomes a vibrant hub for meeting current needs and attracting future talent. She emphasised the potential environmental benefits, noting the improved opportunities for employees to engage in green commuting options.

The transition to Island signifies Virgin Media O2’s commitment to environmental sustainability and modern workplace flexibility.
