Three grade II-listed homes have been shortlisted in the Small Residential Scheme of the Year category at the 2024 ProCon Leicestershire property and construction awards. This category, sponsored by Lovell Partnerships, recognises exceptional residential construction projects.

The Coach House, located in Hallaton, represents a significant conversion project. Originally a substantial two-storey, grade II-listed stable block from 1842, the building has been transformed into a four-bedroom family home. The project, submitted by Corporate Architecture, maintained the structure’s existing features while introducing new elements like mezzanine floors to enhance space without compromising the building’s historic aesthetic.

The Gatehouse in Market Bosworth exemplifies a blend of historical preservation and modern design. This project, entered by Hayward Architects, involved extending a grade II-listed house at the town’s entrance. The extension, which spans approximately 100 sqm, includes contemporary living, dining, and kitchen spaces. Despite the modern upgrades, the project preserved the building’s historical character, integrating state-of-the-art features and materials.

Lime Barns in Breedon on the Hill showcases the transformation of timber-framed barns at the former Limes Farm into a residential property. This self-build project by a couple aimed to retain the maximum historical fabric of the grade II-listed barns, despite being surrounded by other residential properties. A section of the barn that directly abuts the main road’s footpath exemplifies the retention of historical architectural elements, ensuring the preservation of the structure for future generations.

Beth Bundonis, the regional managing director for the sponsoring organisation, remarked, “We’re proud to sponsor the Small and Medium Residential categories at this year’s ProCon awards. Both categories showcase examples of important work in creating quality housing in the Leicestershire and Rutland area—a mission we share through our efforts to unlock housing development across the wider East Midlands.”

The 2024 ProCon Awards are supported by two corporate sponsors along with a media partner. The event features six categories this year, including Rising Star of the Year, Medium Residential Scheme of the Year, Large Residential Scheme of the Year, Small Non-residential Scheme of the Year, and Medium to Large Non-residential Scheme of the Year. Finalists will be showcased at an event on October 2, followed by an awards ceremony on November 14 at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.

The finalists in the Small Residential Scheme of the Year category at the 2024 ProCon Awards underscore the importance of balancing historical preservation with modern living needs. These projects not only enhance the aesthetic value of their respective locations but also provide quality residential spaces, reinforcing the significance of thoughtful architectural design and construction.
