In an innovative move towards sustainability, Huddersfield-based textile recycling specialist, iinouiio, is collaborating with two other companies. The aim is to create a recycled Merino wool yarn from cutting waste.

The collaboration includes Superlove Merino, an apparel brand, and OUBAS, a knitwear designer and manufacturer. This partnership aims to transform waste materials into luxurious fashion items, demonstrating the potential of zero waste in the textile industry.

Huddersfield-based textile recycling specialist, iinouiio, has joined forces with two other enterprises to produce a recycled Merino wool yarn. The innovative ReMerino® yarn is created from cutting waste that would otherwise end up in landfills. This partnership includes Superlove Merino, an apparel brand known for its sustainable practices, and OUBAS, a knitwear designer and manufacturer.

The resulting yarn will be used to create a limited run of luxury women’s knitwear. This collection is a collaborative effort with Kate Stalker of OUBAS, who brings her expertise in knitwear design and manufacturing to the project.

Director of Superlove Merino, Becky Sayer, echoes this sentiment, expressing excitement over the transformation of their cutting room waste into intricately crafted pieces. She notes, “We are known for our timeless, wearable designs, so we wanted this recycled knitwear to align with that too.”

In 2022, iinouiio became part of the Camira Textiles group, expanding its capabilities and reach within the industry. The company now offers services to fashion brands and textile manufacturers, assisting them in converting what would ordinarily be deemed ‘unusable materials’ into new, reusable yarns and fabrics.

Such collaborative efforts are crucial in driving the industry towards a more sustainable future. By demonstrating the viability and benefits of zero waste practices, these companies are setting a precedent for others to follow.

This initiative also underscores the potential for innovation in the textile sector. By rethinking traditional processes and exploring new methods of production, companies can contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly industry.

The move towards zero waste in fashion is gaining momentum, and projects like this are at the forefront of that change. The collaborative effort between iinouiio, Superlove Merino, and OUBAS is a significant step towards realising a sustainable future for the textile industry.

In conclusion, the collaboration between iinouiio, Superlove Merino, and OUBAS signifies a promising advancement towards sustainable zero waste fashion. Their efforts showcase the potential for turning waste into valuable products.

This initiative serves as an inspiration for the textile industry, demonstrating that with innovation and collaboration, the challenge of textile waste can be effectively addressed, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
