Richard Gregory, Chair of Tech North Advisory Board, emphasised that the digital future is pivotal for regional growth but many positions remain unfilled due to a lack of awareness and skills.

There are numerous opportunities spreading across regions from Merseyside to Lancashire, Cheshire to Yorkshire, and Teesside to Tyne on Wear. These vacancies require little to no prior experience, opening doors for many young aspirants. Applications close at midnight on 26th March, with selection and interviews occurring the following day.

Tech North’s rapid recruitment process aims to draw attention to unfilled digital roles while celebrating the Northern region’s quality of life. This approach aspires to make digital careers more accessible and attractive.

The Northern Digital Jobs Strategy report illustrates the extent of current challenges.

Currently, there are 168,671 digital tech workers across the North, yet an impressive 712,750 vacancies have been advertised over the past three years.

This ratio of 1.4 jobs per digital tech worker highlights the immense demand for skilled individuals. The attractive salaries, 48% higher than the national average, further accentuate this demand.

Since its inception in 2014, Tech North has catalysed growth in the tech sector across five Northern cities. Aligning with the government’s vision, Prime Minister Theresa May announced plans to expand Tech North into Tech Nation in November 2017. This transition is set to occur in April 2018.

Two agencies in Manchester, Citypress and Social Chain, have stepped up to promote the initiative. Their involvement showcases the collaborative spirit needed to tackle digital skills shortages.

Andy Poole, a director at Citypress, views this as an opportunity to unify regional employers in addressing their recruitment challenges. By sparking conversations about digital tech, they aim to appeal to younger demographics.

Poole’s sentiment points to an innovative approach, connecting with youth through relevance and engagement.

Such initiatives are designed to demystify the digital sector, breaking stereotypes that may deter potential candidates.
