The Water’s Edge development in Blackburn has secured the Sustainability Award at the prestigious North West PROPS Awards. Celebrated for its outstanding commitment to sustainability, the project stood out for its innovative design. Notable features include wildlife corridors and Sustainable Urban Drainage (SuD) ponds, enhancing biodiversity by capturing surface rainwater runoff.
In collaboration with the housing association Great Places, Keepmoat’s Water’s Edge focuses on energy-efficient homes. The development integrates modern amenities such as solar panels and heat recovery systems, ensuring the homes are not only sustainable but also cost-effective for residents.
Of the homes planned, 57 are slated to be delivered in association with Great Places. The housing project will consist of 37 apartments available for affordable rent and 20 homes designed for shared ownership purposes, managed by Plumlife Homes.
Beyond housing, Keepmoat has committed £31 million to this transformative development.
The project isn’t only about homes; it features biodiversity enhancements, new play areas, and footpath links to Fishmoor Reservoir, promoting healthier lifestyles through walking and cycling.
Peter Barlow, Keepmoat’s Regional Managing Director, hailed the award win, stating the significance of the recognition for transformation and sustainable design initiatives. “It’s a testament to the work,” he said, “improving the area with ecological spaces vital in our current climate.”
