A proposal has been unveiled for a striking new apartment complex in Stockport, drawing inspiration from New York’s iconic Flatiron Building.
A £6 million development plan has been proposed for a prominently positioned site at the meeting point of Tiviot Dale and Bridge Street, close to the bustling Merseyway shopping centre and the historic Underbanks quarter. Envisioned by an Altrincham-based property firm, the project showcases plans for a six-storey structure comprising 33 modern apartments, alongside ground floor commercial space that could house a retail unit.
Renderings created by the architects feature the proposed building’s aesthetic homage to Manhattan’s famous skyscraper. Highlighting the demand in the local area, a key executive stated, “Demand for first-class apartments in Stockport is high, and this scheme will continue the regeneration drive that is gathering pace here. Our focus is on delivering high-quality modern living that makes a positive impact on the local community.”
An architect involved in the project stated the design aims to “reintroduce the historic urban grain to this part of Stockport” and pays homage to landmarks like the long-gone Tiviot Dale Station, once a prominent railway station in the town.
Currently, the property firm has plans to progress developments on two additional sites within Stockport, expected to be submitted for planning in the coming weeks. Executives have revealed that the total value of the three proposed developments in Stockport is approximately £25 million.
Stockport has been a hub of major regeneration projects in recent years, with new apartment blocks springing up and significant improvements to transport infrastructure. There are also plans to extend the Stockport Exchange scheme centred around the town’s railway station, as well as the creation of a new ‘walkable neighbourhood’ in the west of the town centre, which could see up to 1,200 new homes and fresh green spaces.
The striking new apartment complex in Stockport not only pays homage to architectural heritage but also underscores the ongoing regeneration within the town. The proposed development aims to meet the growing demand for high-quality modern living spaces while positively impacting the local community.
