A public consultation has commenced regarding ambitious development plans for the former Hilti site at Trafford Wharf, led by Cole Waterhouse. The proposal outlines a mixed-use scheme aimed at transforming the site into a vibrant neighbourhood.

The proposed development integrates built-to-rent homes, purpose-built student accommodation, and a new education facility equipped with teaching spaces, offices, and various student amenities. Specifically, the project envisions the re-development of the former Hilti headquarters off Victoria Place, signifying a multimillion-pound contribution to the local economy through the creation of jobs during construction, operation, and throughout the supply chain.

The comprehensive scheme includes 419 student beds and two residential towers housing 438 build-to-rent apartments. Additionally, Cole Waterhouse plans to incorporate on-site amenities catering to residents across different life stages, from students and young professionals to downsizers and families.

Cole Waterhouse’s Chief Executive, Damian Flood, articulated: “Our vision for the former Hilti site is to create much needed homes across a range of tenures and represents a multimillion-pound investment into Trafford with highly sustainable transport links.” He further remarked on the transformation potential of the brownfield site, ideally located within walking distance of the University of Salford Media City campus and well-connected to university institutes in Manchester, Salford, and Trafford.

Damian Flood expressed anticipation for community and stakeholder feedback, stating: “We’re looking forward to hearing the feedback from the community and stakeholders on our proposals which we believe will make a significant contribution to the continued regeneration of the local area.”

The Trafford Wharf site offers picturesque views over the Manchester Ship Canal and is conveniently situated next to the Wharfside tram stop. It is also within walking and cycling distance of local amenities in Salford Quays and the surrounding areas. The plans feature new flexible commercial units on the ground floor, a private residents’ podium, and enhancements to the public realm around the site.

The plans are accessible via a virtual exhibition running until Friday, October 4. Interested parties can view the proposals online or contact the consultation team by phone or email for further information.

The Trafford Wharf redevelopment signifies a major investment in the local economy with potential benefits across residential, educational, and commercial sectors. The public consultation provides a crucial opportunity for the community to engage with and shape the future of this ambitious project.
