Morgan Sindall Construction Chosen

Blackpool Council has selected Morgan Sindall Construction as the preferred contractor to build the new state-of-the-art education campus costing £65 million. This agreement is pre-contract services for the Multiversity, meant to bring around 3,000 students and staff into Blackpool town centre.

Relocation and Accessibility

The chosen site is perfectly situated, with easy access to tram, train, and bus services. This makes it highly accessible to students across the Fylde Coast and beyond.

Course Offerings and Educational Impact

It will enhance existing higher education provisions linked directly to local employment needs, offering a wide range of qualifications from further education to adult learning opportunities.

Phased Development Plans

Overall, up to 32,600 sq m of educational and commercial space will be delivered across several phases, starting with the Multiversity building.

Outline Approval and Design Features

Additionally, the surrounding area on George Street will be landscaped and pedestrianised to ensure a safer environment for students and locals.

Architectural Vision and Regeneration

The site will support local contractors, labour, and provide training and apprenticeship opportunities for Blackpool locals.

Social and Economic Value

A partnership with Blackpool and The Fylde College will further education support, helping students become ‘work ready’.

Support for Affected Residents

A Compulsory Purchase Order was issued in April and will be reviewed at a public inquiry later this year.

Broader Regeneration Efforts

The regeneration aims to bring over 8,000 professional workers and students to the area, boosting local economy and infrastructure.

The selection of Morgan Sindall Construction marks a significant milestone for Blackpool’s educational and economic future.

The Multiversity will not only provide top-tier education but also play a crucial role in the town’s regeneration.
