Leisure developer Stack is set to submit a planning application for the site under the Mancunian Way on Oxford Road, a location previously envisioned for a similar venture by Bruntwood. Operators at Hatch have been encouraged to apply for placements and will receive priority during the selection process.

The new development aims to replicate the success of previous ventures by offering street food, bars, and live entertainment, all housed in repurposed shipping containers over two levels. However, this project will feature glazing and pavement seating that connects directly to Oxford Road, thereby enhancing its integration with the surrounding area. Central to the project is a large stage designed for daily live entertainment, including family-friendly events, quiz nights, mass sing-alongs, and even dog shows. The site layout also retains mature trees within a courtyard, creating a pleasant ambiance.

The development will also incorporate two new retail units and a dual-aspect coffee shop, which will face outward to entice passing foot traffic. Neill Winch, CEO of Stack, expressed confidence in the project, stating, “We believe this site is the perfect fit for our concept, and we’re excited to bring our blend of street food, bars, and live entertainment to Manchester. Subject to planning approval being granted, we are confident it will become a much-loved venue for local residents as well as a successful visitor attraction.”

The project is expected to generate 160 full and part-time jobs, thereby contributing positively to the local economy and creating new opportunities for small businesses. Gemma Dishman, Project Development Director, highlighted how the project “takes the essence” of the previous Hatch container scheme but elevates it with a “wider variety of events and live entertainment every day”. She added that the venue would feature daily live music, children’s entertainment during school holidays, mass sing-alongs, and other activities aimed at creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Stack Manchester aims to be more than just a place to visit; it aspires to be a community hub where individuals can immerse themselves in memorable experiences and connect with others through various entertainment activities. The emphasis on community engagement and diverse events aims to transform the space into a lively destination for individuals of all ages.

With planning approval pending, the project promises to bring a dynamic social hub to Manchester, featuring an array of entertainment options. This development not only aims to enrich the local culture but also to provide economic benefits through job creation and business opportunities.
