The boxing video game “Undisputed,” developed by Steel City Interactive in Sheffield in collaboration with PLAION, is finally set to be officially released on 11 October 2024. This marks a significant milestone as it will be the first major boxing game in over a decade, aiming to revolutionise the genre with its innovative approach and realistic gameplay elements.
Players can anticipate a polished final product that builds upon the feedback obtained during the game’s early access phase, which began in January 2023. This feedback loop has allowed the developers to refine their animations and enhance movement mechanics, ensuring an intense boxing experience that stands out in the gaming landscape.
The game boasts a meticulous attention to detail, incorporating advanced movement systems, over 60 different punch variations, and a dynamic physics engine. These features are designed to provide players with an immersive and genuinely strategic boxing experience. The deep control system offers a balance between offence and defence, emphasising the importance of timing, combinations, and strategic movement within the ring.
“Undisputed” brings together a remarkable roster of over 70 real-life male and female boxers. This includes both current superstars, like Tyson Fury and Katie Taylor, and legendary figures such as Joe Frazier and Roy Jones Jr. Each fighter in the game is crafted to realistically mimic their real-life abilities, making the gameplay as authentic as possible.
Furthermore, the game showcases well-known boxing organisations, including the WBC, WBO, and IBF, and features iconic boxing venues like Coldwell’s Gym and Kingdom Arena. Various equipment and apparel brands such as Empire, Everlast, and Rival are intricately integrated into the game, adding to its realism and depth.
“Undisputed” offers various play modes, including single player, local multiplayer, and online multiplayer. A standout feature is the comprehensive Career Mode, where players can create and train their fighters to aim for the title of Undisputed champion of the world.
An engaging soundtrack enhances the immersive experience, including tracks by US hip hop and UK rap artists. Notably, Grammy award-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco contributed the track “P4P” for the game, which can be heard in the launch trailer. Narrated by boxing analyst Akin ‘AK’ Reyes, the trailer highlights the dedication of the developers to bridging the gap between gaming and real-world boxing, delivering an authentic boxing simulation.
The imminent release of “Undisputed” heralds a new era for boxing video games, combining realism and innovation to captivate players.
