Nick Holzherr has always exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit. As a child, selling lost golf balls back to golfers showcased his early business acumen. This spirit endured into his adolescence when, at 13, he taught himself web design and launched a web design company. Despite not winning ‘The Apprentice’, Holzherr gained invaluable business insights. Following ‘The Apprentice’, Holzherr went on to raise £1 million for his business, Whisk. The innovative web and mobile app melds recipes with online shopping through artificial intelligence, streamlining how users buy ingredients. As Holzherr states, ‘We charge a monthly fee to people who use our platform’.
The app has been a runaway success, with 500,000 recipes incorporating their technology. This growth aligns with Holzherr’s vision for AI in business: ‘Artificial intelligence is transforming businesses. We will see a massive step up in usability… It’s inevitable’.
Holzherr’s entrepreneurial journey continues with Helium, a venture builder that collaborates with start-up founders and large companies seeking innovation. Established with a globally distributed team, Helium identifies market opportunities and builds scalable tech businesses.
The venture’s first product, Air.com, launched in March. Its goal is simplifying workplace admin for SMEs. As Holzherr explains, ‘Air is a platform designed to help SMEs rid themselves of time consuming admin’. Utilising a hub and spoke model, companies can add features like time off and HR reports based on their needs.
The model’s flexibility appeals to diverse business requirements, boasting over 500 current clients. Holzherr envisions continuous expansion with ‘a never ending list of additional spokes… The more we build, the more we can offer users’.
Differing from traditional CEOs, Holzherr embraces a unique work culture emphasising remote working. He encourages employees to work from anywhere, fostering a culture of flexibility and productivity. ‘Anyone can go and work anywhere in the world they want,’ he says.
This approach is reflective of Holzherr’s own experiences, as he often works remotely from destinations like Vietnam and Australia.
