A new £28m, 237,000 sq ft warehouse has been completed for Peel Ports at Alexandra Dock in the Port of Liverpool. The state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance the port’s trade capabilities.

Built by Glencar over 12 months, this expansive warehouse is equivalent to five full-size football pitches. Designed to handle various commodities, it’s set to play a crucial role in local and national supply chains.

Advanced Design and Features

The warehouse, designed by Architects Chetwoods, stretches 400 metres. It’s built to handle both unitised and non-unitised goods, making it versatile for different types of cargo.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

The facility boasts 300 metres of dedicated quayside and advanced cranes for efficient vessel discharge. It also features fast HGV turnaround times, a vehicle wash bay, separate office block, welfare facilities, weighbridges, and marshalling cabin.

Bulk Storage Capability

Half of the warehouse is dedicated to grain storage, fully booked by importers during its construction. The first shipment of grain arrived on July 12, followed by a second later that month.

Investment and Capacity

When full, the warehouse will accommodate approximately 90,000 tonnes of cargo.

Importance for Supply Chain

“This is our second project for Peel Ports, and we expect to announce more soon,” Goodman added.

“Our strategy has always been to invest in essential infrastructure, and this warehouse is a perfect example,” Hall stated.
