A prominent design agency specialising in the legal sector has successfully completed a management buy-out (MBO), signalling a new phase in its growth strategy.
The agency, headquartered in Manchester, has made significant strides in the creative industry for over three decades. Initially founded by Nicky Owen in the early 1990s, the agency has built a reputation for its deep understanding of law firm culture, partnership structures, and the need for high-quality, timely creative output.
In 2018, Susan Siddall, an experienced legal marketing director, joined the agency, initiating a succession plan which has now culminated in the buy-out of Owen’s shares. This acquisition places Siddall as the sole owner and CEO, bringing the succession plan to its full completion.
Siddall has been instrumental in diversifying the agency’s client portfolio. Notable achievements include securing appointments for the Cultural Campaign supporting the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and expanding services to regional law firms. Additionally, the agency has broadened its scope to work with global brands and has developed expertise in digital design and emerging AI tools.
Susan Siddall expressed her satisfaction with the buy-out, stating, “I am pleased to announce the successful completion of this MBO which marks the next stage in our growth journey and would like to reassure our clients and partners that we remain committed to delivering high-quality, innovative and tailored design solutions. It is very much business as usual and we will continue to operate with the same team of talented designers, values and culture that have made [the agency] a trusted and respected creative partner over the last 30 years.”
Reflecting on her departure, Nicky Owen, who will now focus on the charity sector, expressed confidence in Siddall’s leadership. “Having built [the agency] from the ground up, it’s incredibly important to me that the company continues to thrive and grow. I have full trust in Susan’s ability to build on the foundations we’ve laid together in recent years. Her vision and dedication to both our clients and the team are exactly what [the agency] needs to enter this next phase of growth. I’m excited to see how she will steer the company towards even greater success in the future.”
In conclusion, Siddall affirmed her commitment to driving the agency’s continued success, noting the company’s ambitious goals and the talent within the team. Pannone Corporate LLP advised Susan Siddall, while Myerson Solicitors and accountants Mitchell Charlesworth acted for Nicky Owen.
The successful management buy-out represents a significant milestone in the agency’s history, with promising prospects for future growth and continued excellence in creative design solutions.
