A significant new development is on the horizon for Manchester. The Far East Consortium has unveiled plans for a 322-home project named Kingfisher. This development is part of the expansive £4bn Victoria North regeneration scheme.
Located in Red Bank, Kingfisher’s apartments are designed to offer modern living spaces. This initiative aims to blend urban life with nature, creating an appealing and sustainable community.
High-Quality Residential Development
A new 322-home development is proposed in Manchester’s Red Bank neighbourhood. This project, named Kingfisher, is part of the ambitious £4bn Victoria North regeneration scheme led by Far East Consortium (FEC).
The Kingfisher development will feature modern one-, two-, and three-bedroom open plan apartments. These apartments will be housed in a 30-storey building on Dantzic Street, offering residents spectacular views of Manchester. The development is designed by HawkinsBrown, ensuring a high-quality and energy-efficient living space.
Kingfisher joins the recently launched 189-home Falcon at Red Bank Riverside. Together, these projects are part of a broader initiative to deliver over 2,000 homes in the Red Bank area. These new homes aim to blend modern living with energy-efficient technology, incorporating air source heat pumps and photovoltaic solar panels.
Sustainable Living Features
The design of Kingfisher includes floor-to-ceiling windows, framed by unique perforated panels. These features encourage natural ventilation and maximise daylight, promoting a healthier living environment for residents.
Beyond the individual living spaces, residents will have access to a shared amenity building named The Clubhouse. This facility includes a residents’ lounge, co-working space, fitness and wellness suite, and a rooftop bar and restaurant with an outdoor terrace.
Private podium gardens will be available to residents, offering a tranquil escape amidst the bustling surroundings. These gardens are situated between Dantzic Street and Dulwich Street, featuring generous public spaces and commercial pop-up venues for dining, music, and social activities.
Community and Recreational Amenities
Red Bank Riverside is becoming a hotspot for retail, food, and drink. The area already boasts a variety of popular establishments, from restaurants and bars to micro-producers.
Proximity to Key Locations
Kingfisher is just a short walk from MeadowSide, another FEC initiative.
MeadowSide is known for its community events held at Angel Meadow Park, providing a lively and engaging atmosphere for residents.
Kingfisher’s location near City River Park, Manchester city centre’s largest park, offers additional outdoor recreational opportunities. This new park will span over 113 acres, revitalising and connecting green spaces and woodlands.
Integrating Nature with Urban Living
City River Park is a key part of the ‘Wild Urbanism’ concept. This vision aims to merge nature with city life, bringing the Irk Valley into Manchester while extending the city back into the valley.
The park will feature new walking and cycling routes, connecting St Catherine’s Wood with other green areas. This initiative will create a seamless blend of urban and natural landscapes, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
Affordable Housing Options
Adjacent to Kingfisher and Falcon, the Victoria Riverside scheme is under construction. This development includes 634 high-quality homes across three towers.
Out of these, 128 homes will be available on an affordable basis through shared ownership and rent-to-buy schemes. These affordable homes will be managed by the housing association L&Q.
Red Bank is also close to MeadowSide, which has successfully sold all 422 homes completed around Angel Meadow Park.
Future Developments in Red Bank
Kingfisher is the latest addition to the Victoria North project, which spans seven new and existing neighbourhoods, including Red Bank.
The Victoria North initiative aims to deliver 15,000 new homes over the next decade. This project marks the largest urban regeneration effort in Manchester’s history.
Andrew Bradley-Nixon, Sales and Marketing Director at FEC, stated, “Progress on the UK’s largest regeneration project continues at pace and making Kingfisher available to prospective owners is the latest in a flurry of exciting milestones.”
Enhancing Manchester’s Connection to Nature
The Victoria North project aims to address Manchester’s need for homes better connected to nature.
City River Park and other green initiatives within Victoria North will position Manchester as a leader in integrating natural elements into urban development.
The Kingfisher development is a significant step forward for Manchester. It promises modern, energy-efficient homes within a vibrant and well-connected community. As part of the Victoria North initiative, it symbolises a commitment to sustainable urban living while enhancing the city’s connection to nature.
