A Japanese restaurant in Liverpool has completed a £100,000 upgrade, creating a sophisticated space for private dining, intimate events, and pre- and post-dinner drinks.

The establishment, known as Sapporo, is celebrated as the city’s first and only teppanyaki restaurant. The new conservatory space showcases natural hues, wooden tables and chairs, and booth-style seating, complemented by a bonsai tree adorned with rattan fan-shaped ceiling light pendants.

The design of the space adheres to the principles of Japanese interior design, featuring clean lines, natural palettes, and a minimalist style. This enhancement allows the restaurant to accommodate an additional 25 guests. Adjacent to the new area is a refurbished lounge with seating for 35 guests.

Sapporo marked its 20th anniversary on Duke Street last November. The main restaurant houses 12 traditional teppanyaki tables where chefs entertain guests with live cooking. Customers can also indulge in a variety of small plates and sushi dishes, including sashimi, nigiri, and temaki. In addition, the full signature A La Carte menu is available, served directly from the kitchen rather than at the teppanyaki grill.

The new conservatory space has also enabled the offering of sushi-making masterclasses, catering to both novices and aficionados, with chefs guiding participants in crafting authentic sushi.
