Two tech firms, Revector and 4D Products, have collaborated to develop an advanced search and rescue backpack. Their joint effort aims to enhance the efficiency of rescue missions in dense forests.

Two innovative companies, Revector and 4D Products, based at the Sci-Tech Daresbury campus in the North West, have successfully collaborated to develop a cutting-edge search and rescue backpack. This initiative was sparked by a chance meeting at a business networking event, where they discovered a shared goal of enhancing rescue operations. These firms have combined their expertise to address the challenges faced by rescue teams in Vietnam, focusing on developing a technologically advanced tool that could significantly improve efficiency in locating missing individuals.

Revector’s contribution to this collaboration is a sophisticated phone-tracking device, designed to capture and monitor the signal from a missing person’s mobile phone. This technology allows rescuers to pinpoint the individual’s location within a 20-metre radius, even in heavily vegetated areas where traditional methods fall short.

To accommodate the 10kg phone-tracking unit, 4D Products engineered a bespoke cradle and backpack. “Working closely with Revector, we ensured that our design was functional and efficient,” explained Adam Farrall, product designer at 4D Products. The proximity of their offices facilitated swift communication, enhancing the speed and quality of the prototype development.

The teams’ close physical proximity at Sci-Tech Daresbury allowed for a remarkably fast turnaround from concept to completion. In just a month, the collaboration saw the full realisation of the prototype. This efficiency was pivotal in meeting the project’s ambitious timelines, allowing for rapid iteration and refinement of the product design. Revector’s CEO, Shane Wilson, highlighted the advantage of immediate communication for resolving design challenges and accelerating the overall process.

The introduction of this high-tech backpack is a game-changer for search and rescue missions in Vietnam. The advanced tracking capabilities allow teams to rescue missing persons faster and more effectively in regions characterised by dense vegetation and a lack of infrastructure. “This technology is groundbreaking,” noted Wilson, expressing pride in the project’s potential to save lives.

Sci-Tech Daresbury offers an environment specially conducive to innovation and partnership. “The campus’s ecosystem fosters collaboration and ideation,” stated John Leake, business growth director at Sci-Tech Daresbury. The close-knit community encourages cross-disciplinary partnerships, proving beneficial for Revector and 4D Products in creating a practical solution to a challenging problem.

With the successful development of this backpack, both Revector and 4D Products are poised for further innovations. Their partnership has set a precedent for future collaborations, underscoring the importance of close cooperation and shared expertise in technological advancement.

The partnership between Revector and 4D Products has demonstrated the power of collaboration in technological innovation. Their new backpack promises to revolutionise rescue operations, showcasing a successful model for future development efforts.
