Offshore logistics firm Harlyn Solutions has secured a significant contract to manage the subsea cables for one of Scotland’s largest wind farms.
The Blyth-based company has been tasked by Ocean Winds—a joint venture between ENGIE and EDP Renewables responsible for the 882 MW installation—with the collection, storage, and emergency preparedness of the wind farm’s inter array cables. The work will unfold over the upcoming months before the cables and their accessories are transitioned into storage.
Harlyn, known for handling unusually large cargo, will utilise facilities at the Port of Blyth for this contract. This contract follows two previous projects for Moray West, which included the transportation of substations and the cleaning of monopiles, the foundations of offshore wind turbines.
Last year, Harlyn expanded its operations at Blyth’s Energy Central site and relocated to larger office space within Blyth Workspace. This expansion also saw the addition of an engineer to its team, bringing the headcount to 10.

The Moray West wind farm began delivering power to the grid in July. The site will eventually host 60 wind turbines and aims to be fully operational next year. This project is expected to be a substantial contributor to Scotland’s renewable energy and climate change goals and will have a 25-year operational lifespan.
