Green Light for £150m Canalside Regeneration

City planning authorities have approved a transformative £150 million canalside regeneration project.

The development, led by Birmingham-based Wavensmere Homes, is set to revitalise a 17.5-acre derelict site in Wolverhampton, delivering over 500 new residential units and extensive green spaces.

The Canalside South project in Wolverhampton has received the green light from planning chiefs. This ambitious initiative will be led by Wavensmere Homes, in partnership with City of Wolverhampton Council. The project aims to transform a 17.5-acre plot, previously an industrial site off Qualcast Road, into a vibrant residential community. The site, overlooking the Wyrley & Essington Canal, has been derelict for 15 years.

The project also includes seven acres of green spaces, enhancing the living environment and providing recreational areas for residents. These green spaces are integral to the development, promoting a sense of wellbeing and community among inhabitants.

Designed by Birmingham-based Glancy Nicholls Architects, the low-rise development will blend modern architectural aesthetics with functional urban planning. The design prioritises accessibility and sustainability, aligning with contemporary urban living standards.

The broader Wolverhampton Canalside masterplan envisions the creation of around 1,000 new homes, addressing both local and regional housing demands. The Canalside South project is a critical step towards realising this vision, contributing significantly to the city’s growth and development.
