A new audio-visual experience by GoGo Penguin and Tentacle is set to premiere at Factory International later this month.
The Manchester-based cinematic back-beat trio, GoGo Penguin, have developed Apophenia, a feature-length live audio-visual experience over nine months. They collaborated with cognitive design studio Tentacle and video engineering experts, PlanValley, to bring this innovative project to life.
GoGo Penguin’s music has previously influenced film content and was notably featured in ‘Une Année Difficile.’ They also composed the score for the 2022 French film ‘Memento Mori’ and created and performed their own score for ‘Koyaanisqatsi.’
The creation of Apophenia was influenced by their work with Tentacle Creative Director, Jordan Copeland, on their recent album, ‘Everything Is Going To Be Okay.’ Drawing from new techniques and technology, the group felt an immediate creative spark in this collaboration. They expressed, ‘When we worked with Tentacle on our last album, we felt a creative spark from the outset. It was clear that they understood and shared our vision. We continue to be inspired by Jordan and the team’s innovation and their dedication to new techniques and technology, which we feel has enhanced and complemented our own creativity.’
The resulting experience is depicted as an ‘exhilarating journey into your own psychological hardware, exploring the subjective relationships between aural and visual perception.’ GoGo Penguin’s music will drive audio-reactive visuals on large screens.
Apophenia promises to be a remarkable confluence of music and visual art, setting a new standard for live audio-visual experiences.
