The gaming giant Betfred has appointed Nick Cockerill, the former Vice President of product at Stats Perform, as its new Chief Product Officer. Cockerill steps into a newly established role to elevate the company’s digital presence, strengthen its retail offerings, and drive its transition towards a technology-first organisation.
Nick Cockerill brings over a decade of experience in the sports betting and iGaming industry. His career includes senior positions at Sky Betting and Gaming, Pokerstars International, and Flutter. At Stats Perform, where he has worked since 2021, he played a pivotal role in launching ‘Instant Highlights’, an industry first now employed by some of the world’s leading sportsbooks. This innovation earned the SBC Innovation in Mobile award in 2023.
Additionally, Cockerill was instrumental in launching Runningball for tennis, enhancing the speed and depth of data for tennis trading. He also developed the Dynamic Betting Stats API, which allows seamless interaction with Opta data for player and team statistics markets, as well as bet-builders and same-game multis. These innovations have significantly contributed to the growth of Opta-based betting in recent years.
During his tenure at Sky Betting & Gaming from 2014 to 2018, Cockerill led the core and payments product teams, significantly expanding the team and supporting international and in-house technology growth. His efforts included establishing a new office in Sheffield. Following the company’s acquisition by Pokerstars, he oversaw the product and design teams for the construction of an international sportsbook.
Before his roles in the sports betting industry, Cockerill held commercial and online trading positions at Adidas and Asda Walmart. His comprehensive background in both product development and commercial trading positions him well to spearhead Betfred’s technological and retail advancements.
