In a notable highlight for rural architecture, three luxury countryside home developments have been shortlisted for the Medium Residential Scheme of the Year at the 2024 ProCon Leicestershire property and construction awards.

These projects, located in Rutland and Leicestershire, stand out for their exceptional design, use of high-quality materials, and innovative approaches in residential construction.

Chater Valley View in North Luffenham

Chater Valley View, developed by Kaybee Developments, features three luxurious homes near the picturesque village of North Luffenham. Constructed using local Lincolnshire limestone, each house boasts five bedrooms and unique design elements, ensuring individuality while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic. The development is a testament to the high standards of craftsmanship and the thoughtful approach to integrating the homes with their rural surroundings.

Kaybee Developments envisioned Chater Valley View as a sympathetic addition to the landscape, offering luxury and comfort without compromising on environmental considerations.

Innovative Design of The Elms in Newton Harcourt

The Elms, submitted by MTE Leicester, comprises four modern, barn-style homes located in the tranquil setting of Newton Harcourt. Originally planned with a steel frame and timber infill panels, a shift to a fully timber structure was proposed to enhance sustainability. This alternative design not only reduced the carbon footprint but also provided thermal efficiency and cost benefits.

The decision to replace steel with timber highlights a commitment to sustainable building practices. The Elms stands as a model for future residential projects aiming for environmental responsibility without sacrificing modern amenities.

Woodwell and Meadow Barn in Market Overton

Woodwell and Meadow Barn, projects by Distinctive Developments Group and DDGL Construction, replaced an old steel barn with two traditional farmstead homes.

The L-shaped buildings create a courtyard ambience and feature both single and double-storey designs. The use of oak framing and ground-to-eaves glass openings evoke the charm of traditional threshing barns, blending heritage aesthetics with contemporary comfort.

Local materials, including stone from nearby quarries and recycled materials from the original barn, were utilised to maintain regional architectural integrity while endorsing sustainable practices.
