In 2023, Tampopo, an independent Far Eastern restaurant founded by David Fox, opened its second London location in Wimbledon. This expansion has boosted the restaurant’s growth, contributing to a 16% rise in revenue for the 2023/24 period. Consequently, the business is now eyeing further expansion in the North West and Greater London areas for the 2024/25 period.
David Fox, who founded the restaurant in 1997, believes that their heritage and commitment to understanding their customers’ needs have positioned Tampopo well for continued growth. He noted, “Our second London restaurant in Wimbledon has helped to boost our growth this year and it’s been an excellent opportunity to establish the Tampopo brand in new markets as we look to further our expansion journey.”
The restaurant’s new menu, which features over 70% new and evolved dishes, represents the most significant change in its history. Developed after around 12 months of research and development, including trips to the Far East, the menu reflects customer feedback and dining preferences in 2024. Fox emphasised the importance of adapting to customer expectations, stating, “In an ever more competitive marketplace, travel, research and development are vital to ensure we continue to focus on what our customers want.”
Key new dishes in the menu include the Thai Crispy Whole Sea Bream and the Yamato Fillet Steak, a Japanese-style steak. Additionally, new breakfast and brunch options such as the Thai Style Omelette and the Bali Brunch Bowl have been introduced. Fox highlighted that these changes make it easier for customers to dine in various ways, whether they want to graze, share, or have a quick bite. He said, “We remain the same Tampopo at heart, but we never stand still and that is what the industry needs to thrive.”
Tampopo’s strategic growth and innovative menu changes highlight its adaptability and commitment to meeting customer needs in a competitive market.
