A significant development aims to narrow the gender diversity gap in the tech and entrepreneurship sectors as a Female Founders Incubator programme extends to Alderley Park.

The initiative, delivered in partnership with a venture capital firm dedicated to supporting female-led start-ups across the UK, will offer essential resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities. This comprehensive six-month programme will support 30 early-stage female founders with more than £20,000 worth of specialist business support.

Participants in the programme will benefit from tailored mentoring, access to industry events, complimentary workspace in a vibrant location, and extensive networking opportunities to foster growth. Moreover, they will receive personalised guidance from industry leaders, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary tools for success.

The location of Alderley Park in Cheshire is deemed ideal for the initiative, providing an inclusive atmosphere for any innovation-led, female-founded start-up business. Previous cohorts of the Female Founders Incubator in other cities have seen substantial success. Founders secured over £200,000 in capital investment, won multiple awards, and created new job roles. Additionally, successful funding rounds were completed, collectively securing up to £1 million to drive businesses forward.

Funded by the Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which has committed £2.6 billion to local investment, this project aligns with the regional growth and knowledge-sharing objectives. Andy Roberts, Head of Innovation, emphasised the commitment to creating a level playing field for female entrepreneurs, highlighting the profound impact of previous cohorts.

Helen Oldham, co-founder of the partnering venture firm, noted that their expertise in investment readiness education would provide founders with valuable opportunities to present to real investors. The programme builds on strong R&D funding achievements at the park, with nearly £50 million secured by life science businesses in the past year.

Applications for the initiative are open until September 19, with selected participants notified by September 24. The programme will commence with a launch event and induction on October 1, providing a platform for participants to meet their cohort and programme leads.

The expansion of this initiative to Alderley Park represents a significant step in addressing the gender diversity gap in the tech sector, offering female entrepreneurs vital support and resources to succeed.
