Agent Academy CIC, a social enterprise based in the North West, has successfully generated over £2 million in salaries through its industry-designed skills programme aimed at preparing young people for the digital revolution.

Agent Academy CIC aims to equip young individuals with the necessary skills to succeed in the rapidly evolving technology sector. Traditional education often falls short when it comes to providing these skills, leaving many young people unemployed or in insecure, low-skilled jobs. The 2018 Centre for Cities Outlook Report highlights that 3.6 million jobs are at risk of disappearing by 2030, emphasising the need for policymakers to prepare the future workforce adequately.

In response to this challenge, a full-service marketing agency launched this academy to assist 18-25 year olds who, post-higher education, lack the skills needed for careers in the creative and digital industries. This social enterprise focuses on developing value-led, socially aware young leaders who can positively impact their workplaces and society. The programme has already helped 70 young people secure full-time industry jobs, with participants finding employment at major regional businesses such as Deloitte, Capital FM, Sony Music, and Sky.

Director Zoe Wallace noted, “Agent Academy has stepped up to the talent challenge faced by the creative and digital industry by giving young people the opportunity to upskill and then kick-start their careers.” She further stated, “The programme, which is free to young people, must remain dynamic and industry-relevant, which is why we have over 150 industry leaders co-creating content and mentoring our students. Our students are finishing our programmes work-ready, fully versed in how the industry works and what is expected from them. As a result, the demand we have from regional employers is exceptional.”

Participants in the 12-week programme gain inspiration and coaching from industry leaders while working on real-life briefs set by clients. They finish equipped with the skills, knowledge, contacts, and networks necessary to secure jobs in the creative, digital, and tech industries.

Looking forward, Wallace expressed optimism, “Despite the skills challenges faced by our region’s employers, we can see real potential to deliver value into the creative and digital economies across the North and bring even greater opportunities to the region’s young people. We have big ambitions for growth and an inherent belief in the young people we’re supporting.”
