Harrow Estates, a part of the North West-based development group, has initiated a second round of public consultations regarding the proposed extension of Woodford Garden Village in south Manchester. The updated plans follow initial consultations held earlier this summer.
The new proposals for Woodford Garden Village include a sustainable mix of approximately 500 new homes, incorporating affordable housing, family residences, senior living spaces, and self-build plots to meet local housing needs. Additionally, the plans feature a new mixed-use community hub adjacent to the Avro Heritage Museum, designed to support local heritage and provide a community building equipped with flexible event and communal spaces.
Harrow Estates has refined their proposals based on feedback from the initial consultation and aims to further engage with the public to confirm key priorities for the development. Residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming public exhibitions scheduled for Thursday, September 12, and Friday, September 13, at Woodford War Memorial Community Centre. Additionally, the project’s dedicated website will reflect the latest updates on the same date.
Tim Noden, Planning Director at Harrow Estates, expressed gratitude for the feedback received thus far and highlighted the importance of public input in shaping the development. “We were greatly appreciative of the views of local residents and stakeholders at our public consultation in the Summer. We have now updated our draft proposals in response to feedback received. We look forward to speaking with people again as further details are developed around these proposals for a range of new homes, a mixed-use community hub, and a significant amount of green open spaces for all residents to enjoy,” Noden stated.
Woodford Garden Village, which secured planning consent in 2015, has already seen the completion of over 600 homes on the former site of Woodford Aerodrome. Existing amenities include The Aviator pub restaurant and a primary school, with planning permission for a local centre granted in 2023. Harrow Estates is preparing to submit planning applications for the new development later this year.
The expanded plans for Woodford Garden Village aim to address local housing needs while fostering community engagement and preserving local heritage. Public participation remains crucial as the development progresses.
