Design Agency Transitions to New Leadership Through Management Buyout

design agency transitions to new leadership through management buyout business manchester

Manchester-based design agency, Epigram, has completed a management buyout (MBO) marking the next phase in its strategic growth. Established by Nicky Owen in the early 1990s, Epigram has been actively engaged in the creative sector for over 30 years.

In 2018, Susan Siddall joined the company as an experienced legal marketing director, initiating a succession plan that culminated in the recent buyout. For an undisclosed sum, Siddall acquired Owen’s shares, making her the sole owner of Epigram.

Over the years, the agency has expanded organically, partnering with renowned law firms such as Linklaters, DWF LLP, DLA Piper, Addleshaw Goddard, Eversheds Sutherland, and Osborne Clarke. Under Siddall’s leadership, Epigram has diversified its client base, securing contracts with notable regional law firms, including Pannone Corporate, Russell Cooke, and Taylor Wessing.

Additionally, the agency has broadened its scope beyond the legal sector, collaborating with global brands like Knight Frank and Kraft Heinz. Epigram has also enhanced its offerings in online and interactive services, guiding clients through the complexities of digital design and emerging AI tools.

Siddall expressed her satisfaction with the successful completion of the MBO, stating, “I am pleased to announce the successful completion of this MBO which marks the next stage in our growth journey and would like to reassure our clients and partners that we remain committed to delivering high quality, innovative and tailored design solutions. It is very much business as usual and we will continue to operate with the same team of talented designers, values and culture that have made Epigram such a trusted and respected creative partner over the last 30 years.”

Owen, who will retire to focus on her charitable work, commented on the transition, “Having built Epigram from the ground up, it’s incredibly important to me that the company continues to thrive and grow. I have full trust in Susan’s ability to build on the foundations we’ve laid together in recent years. Her vision and dedication to both our clients and the team are exactly what Epigram needs to enter this next phase of growth. I’m excited to see how she will steer the company towards even greater success in the future.”

Siddall reiterated the agency’s ambitious future plans, “Nicky has created an incredibly strong foundation, and, as we move into this new chapter, I am more committed than ever to driving Epigram’s success. We have ambitious goals ahead and, with the continued talent, dedication and creativity of our team, I am confident we will achieve them.”

The legal and financial aspects of the MBO were managed by Pannone Corporate, Myerson Solicitors, and accountants Mitchell Charlesworth.

The successful management buyout of Epigram by Susan Siddall signals a new chapter for the agency. With a strong foundation and ambitious growth plans, the agency is well-positioned to continue its trajectory of success under Siddall’s leadership.
