Local students from West Park Academy and Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College recently had the unique opportunity to contribute to the interior design of a show home in Westville Quarter, West Park, Darlington.
The unveiling of the show home saw students Freya, Max, Marley, Esme, Lily, Ellen, and Sophie, accompanied by their teachers, cutting the ribbon. The students were thrilled to witness their artwork featured prominently in the home’s design. Artwork from children at West Park Academy was incorporated into bedroom three’s decor, while designs by students from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College were integrated throughout the entire interior, influencing fabric, wallpaper, and feature wall art.
Donna Clark, the Teesside Sales Director, remarked on the project’s uniqueness, highlighting the significance of having student-created designs as part of the home’s interior. Clark noted the joy and pride the children felt as they saw their creative efforts realised within a professional setting. “This show home is particularly special because quite a lot of the interior design ideas have been created by local children and students; it was fantastic to see their delight as they realised how their drawings and inspired designs came to life,” she said. “It was lovely to see so many people come and support them and see the pride they felt in their incredible achievements.”
The interior design team was notably inspired by the students’ work, incorporating their colours and motifs into the overall design. Esme and Lily, both 17, had their designs transformed into wallpaper and artwork, featured within bedroom two, framed with strategically placed shelves to accentuate their creations. Nine-year-old Freya’s vision of a cosy corner, adorned with rainbow and star motifs, was expertly realised in the third bedroom through clever utilisation of built-in cupboards.
Meanwhile, downstairs featured striking blue architectural-inspired wallpaper by Hope and a distinctive piece of continuous line drawing artwork created by Sophie. Donna Clark concluded by commending the talent and enthusiasm of the students, wishing them well in their future endeavours. “These children and students really embraced the brief we set them and they are clearly very talented. There is little wonder that some of the older students are considering a career in interior design – we wish them well in whatever the future holds for them.”
The collaboration with local students not only enriched the show home’s interior design but also provided an invaluable experience for these young individuals, igniting potential career aspirations in interior design.
