Councillors in Blackburn with Darwen have approved plans for 553 new homes. The new development will offer a variety of house types and sizes.

Councillors in Blackburn with Darwen have given the green light for the construction of 553 new homes. These homes, built by Persimmon Lancashire, will be located on land allocated for housing in the Blackburn with Darwen Local Plan. The development is set to cater to local families, first-time buyers, and those looking to downsize. Properties will range from two- to five-bedrooms, including terraced, semi-detached, and detached houses. This strategic location is only 10 minutes from both the town centre and Blackburn train station, offering excellent connectivity to the M6 and A666.

The new homes will come equipped with EV charging points and solar panels. These features underscore a commitment to modern, eco-friendly living. The development will also achieve a 10% biodiversity net gain through on-site enhancements and off-site contributions.

A significant investment of over £6 million will be made to improve local infrastructure. This includes contributions towards primary education, local highway improvements, and enhanced healthcare accessibility in the area. Therefore, the project not only aims to provide housing but also to bolster the overall community infrastructure.

The project includes more than 35 acres of public open spaces, with sections of retained woodland and a village green designed to enhance the natural habitat. Two new playgrounds will be integrated into the site, and a new cycle and footpath network will encourage active travel among residents. Meanwhile, these features are expected to significantly benefit local wildlife and promote a healthier lifestyle.

According to Andrew Laing, Land Director at Persimmon Lancashire, “We’re pleased that committee members have voted to reaffirm the council’s recommendation for approval. This development will provide a range of house types for young people, families, and downsizers alike with excellent access to local amenities. In addition to delivering much-needed quality new housing, approval of these plans also secures further investment in Blackburn.”

This development is set to modernise Blackburn’s housing landscape while significantly benefiting the community and local environment.
