Construction has commenced on the transformative Salford Rise project. The development is set to bridge the University of Salford with the Crescent innovation zone, enhancing connectivity and fostering collaboration.
This significant undertaking is part of a broader £2.5 billion, 252-acre Crescent Salford masterplan. The initiative focuses on accessibility, green spaces, and active travel routes, promising to reshape the local environment.
The Salford Rise scheme is a pivotal part of the Crescent Salford masterplan. This £2.5 billion initiative aims to remove physical barriers between northern communities and the Crescent area. In place of these barriers, new walking and cycling routes will be established to promote accessibility and active travel.
High-quality green spaces, trees, and public squares are central to the project. These areas will not only improve aesthetic appeal but also serve as venues for pop-up events and festivals. The main feature is a five-acre walkway, which will be elevated and expansive.
The project is partially funded by £13.17 million from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund. Preparatory work will continue throughout 2024, with construction of the bridge set to begin in early 2025 and complete by summer 2026.
Additionally, it will encourage active travel and facilitate improved collaboration across the development, promoting sustainable transport options.
This area will physically connect economic assets across the innovation zone, unlocking substantial development opportunities.
The project will enhance collaboration between academia and industry, creating a dynamic environment for innovation and research. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Salford, Prof Nic Beech, stated, “Salford Rise is a great example of innovative regeneration work”.
