City Hospice, the sole provider of home-based specialist palliative care in Cardiff, is poised to launch its largest charity shop to date. Situated on Colchester Avenue, the 3,500 sq ft store is scheduled to open in October.

The new store will offer an extensive range of pre-used items including accessories, books, clothing, furniture, and homeware. Moreover, the venue is intended to serve as a community space for local residents.

Critically, this new establishment will act as a flagship for City Hospice’s fundraising activities. All purchases, donations, and community events will directly support the charity’s mission to provide crucial care for patients with terminal or life-limiting illnesses, as well as support for their families.

Liz Booyse, Chief Executive of City Hospice, stated, “We’re especially proud that our new shop, our largest ever in Cardiff, will not only raise funds for the charity but also serve as a hub for the community. Through our workshops and events, we aim to create a space where people can come together, share experiences and support one another – all while contributing to a cause that helps so many families across Cardiff during life’s most challenging moments.”

The new store will be the seventh outlet for City Hospice and will be officially inaugurated on October 3rd by the High Sheriff of South Glamorgan, Janey Howell. This significant expansion coincides with City Hospice’s 40th anniversary.

City Hospice provides indispensable care for patients suffering from life-limiting or terminal illnesses such as cancer, dementia, motor neurone disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In addition, it offers bereavement counselling and various other services to support the families of its patients. The charity currently has an annual income of approximately £2.3 million.

The new store represents a considerable advancement in City Hospice’s fundraising and community engagement initiatives, thereby ensuring the continued provision of vital palliative care services in Cardiff.
