Recognising the region’s ability to produce stellar tech companies, the awards highlighted firms generating significant impact and revenue.

At the prestigious Northern Tech Awards in Newcastle, 100 fast-growing tech firms were celebrated for their remarkable achievements.

These companies collectively generated an impressive £1.9bn in revenue in 2016, highlighting the North’s thriving digital economy.

The Car Buying Group secured the fastest-growing company award, reflecting its exceptional market expansion.

Following closely was TVSquared, illustrating the competitive spirit and success of Northern tech enterprises.

Other notable names like Sky Betting and Gaming also featured prominently, showcasing diversity in innovative solutions.

The software development sector was particularly noteworthy, with 31 software firms among the top 100.

An impressive 19 of these were recognised among the top 50 fastest-growing companies, signifying robust sector growth.

This represents a marked increase from the previous year, where only 12 were featured, elevating the software sector’s 2017 share to 38%.

The prestigious Overall Judges’ Award was bestowed upon The Hut Group, a testament to its outstanding performance and leadership.

The awards revealed winners across nine other tech categories, underscoring the diversity and breadth of talent in the region.

Hugh Campbell of GP Bullhound noted the region’s tech companies are now gaining international recognition and worthy valuations.

Richard Flint from Sky Betting and Gaming highlighted the ingenuity and rapid growth among Northern tech firms, a testament to the innovation permeating the region.

These insights from prominent industry leaders underscore the Northern tech sector’s dynamic progress and future potential.

Supported by Tech North, Barclays, and several other sponsors, the event was a collaborative effort celebrating Northern tech.

The not-for-profit nature of the event emphasises a community-driven approach to recognising achievement.

Partners like OBI Property and Teesside University played crucial roles in facilitating the awards, illustrating a strong network within the tech ecosystem.

In addition to The Car Buying Group, notable winners included Evolution Funding and Zero Light.

Godel Tech was awarded for leadership, while Interact was recognised for international success.
