Brain-sensing Tech Firm Acquires Mindfulness App

brain sensing tech firm acquires mindfulness app business manchester

‘Brain-sensing’ technology innovator Muse has successfully acquired Meditation Studio, an award-winning mindfulness application, known for its guided meditations from over 40 leading experts.

As part of the acquisition, Meditation Studio’s co-founder, Cyd Crouse, has joined Muse as the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Muse is renowned for revolutionizing the mindfulness industry by providing real-time feedback during meditation sessions. The Muse headband utilises changing sounds of weather to guide users’ meditation practice, based on their brain’s real-time state. This device employs audio feedback from brainwave data (EEG) to eliminate the guesswork from meditation.

A recent study conducted by the Catholic University of Milan indicated significant positive impacts from using the Muse device. Over a four-week period, participants exhibited a physiological shift to a more relaxed baseline brain state, alongside enhanced focus and cognitive performance when compared to control groups. This study underscores the potential benefits of integrating ‘brain-sensing’ technology into daily meditation practices.

Crouse remarked on the acquisition, stating, “The decision to sell your own company is never an easy one, but I found that the synergies between myself, Meditation Studio and Muse was something magical. We deeply believe in the transformative power of meditation and feel it is our mission to connect people to the practice in a modern and approachable way.”

Meditation Studio is a highly-rated application offering a variety of guided meditations and courses, facilitated by over 30 leading experts. The app was previously recognised by Apple as one of the top 10 best apps of 2016 and by Forbes as one of the ‘Top Health and Fitness Apps 2017’.

In her new role as CMO, Crouse aims to integrate the extensive content of Meditation Studio into Muse’s product offerings. The collaboration is focused on harnessing human-centric technology to enhance connectivity, mindfulness, and overall quality of life.

The acquisition signifies a strategic move by Muse to expand its capabilities and resources in the mindfulness sector, promising a modern and accessible approach to meditation practice.
