The BBC has unveiled the trailer for the real-time thriller “Nightsleeper” and announced that the series will debut on Sunday, 15 September.
The BBC has disclosed that all episodes of “Nightsleeper” will be accessible on BBC iPlayer from 6am on the day of its release. On BBC One, the drama will be broadcast on Sunday and Monday nights at 9pm over three weeks.
The series, penned by BAFTA award-winning writer Nick Leather, features a dynamic cast including Alexandra Roach and Joe Cole. Created by Euston Films for the BBC, “Nightsleeper” is a six-part series that revolves around a train travelling from Glasgow to London which suddenly finds itself in a dire situation. The narrative combines heart-pounding action with a mysterious whodunnit, all unfolding over a single night.
Among the key characters are Joe Roag, an off-duty police officer played by Joe Cole, and Abby Aysgarth, the acting technical director at the National Cyber Security Centre, portrayed by Alexandra Roach. Their mission to stop the train reveals a tangled web of threats, including potential hostile states, terrorist organisations, or organised crime. The enigmatic ‘Driver’, who seems perpetually ahead of their efforts, adds to the suspense.
As Abby and Joe, strangers to each other, endeavour to form a trusting relationship amidst the chaos, they must discern whether the other passengers will aid or obstruct their efforts. The question of trust looms large as anyone could potentially be involved in the hijacking.
The series also features performances by Alex Ferns, Sharon Small, James Cosmo, David Threlfall, Daniel Cahill, Lois Chimimba, Gabriel Howell, Katie Leung, Leah MacRae, Ruth Madeley, Adam Mitchell, Pamela Nomvete, Scott Reid, Sharon Rooney, and Parth Thakerar. The show is executive produced by Kate Harwood, Nick Leather, Jamie Magnus Stone, and Gaynor Holmes. Direction comes from Jamie Magnus Stone and John Hayes, with writing contributions from Laura Grace. The series is produced by Jonathan Curling and co-produced by Daisy Costello, with global distribution managed by Fremantle.
With a compelling plot and a talented cast, “Nightsleeper” promises to be a gripping addition to the BBC’s slate of dramas.
