Plans have been approved for the UK’s pioneering electric heavy goods vehicle (EHGV) charging hub at Able Humber Port. This initiative aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector.
Milence, a joint venture comprising Daimler Truck, Volvo Group, and Traton Group, has received approval from North Lincolnshire Council for the UK’s first electric HGV charging hub at Able Humber Port. Construction is anticipated to begin in November, featuring four Combined Charging Systems (CCS) and one Megawatt Charging System (MCS).
This development is expected to revolutionise the South Humber ports by facilitating the transition from diesel to electric HGVs. The first phase will include eight bays powered by CCS and two bays powered by MCS, alongside a lounge offering food and beverages.
Able Humber Port, the site owner, has allocated land for this project situated within a Freeport tax site, providing various economic incentives. The final setup will encompass additional CCS and MCS chargers, enhancing its capacity.
Anja van Niersen, CEO at Milence, noted that the Immingham site represents a strategic milestone, bolstering Milence’s capacity to meet rising demands for sustainable transport solutions. She reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing green logistics across Europe.
Square One Law has a longstanding relationship with Able Group, advising on multiple projects over the years. Their expertise was instrumental in navigating the legal complexities involved in this development.
This initiative aligns with the broader governmental and industrial objectives to reduce greenhouse gases and promote sustainable practices. The hub is poised to become a critical component of the UK’s green infrastructure.
The continued development and enhancement of the charging hub are expected to attract further investments and collaborations, strengthening the UK’s position in the green logistics sector.
The establishment of the UK’s first electric HGV charging hub at Able Humber Port marks a significant milestone in the journey towards sustainable transport. With strong support from local authorities, industry stakeholders, and legal advisors, this project is set to play a pivotal role in the UK’s decarbonisation efforts.
