Salford City Council has given the green light to a significant new logistics and industrial development, set to transform a brownfield site in Eccles.
The approved project, spanning 108,553 sq ft, is spearheaded by Peel Waters and will completely redevelop the former waste recycling site. Strategically located off Liverpool Road, near junction 11 of the M60, the development aims to become a well-connected employment hub, providing essential infrastructure for various businesses.
Designed in collaboration with AEW, Langton Development Services, and WSP, the Halo West development will feature eight units ranging from 4,338 sq ft to 39,460 sq ft. These units are crafted to accommodate a wide range of industrial and logistics operations. The project is built to a Grade A specification and seeks to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating, ensuring high sustainability standards.
Peter Linstead, Development Director for Logistics at Peel Waters, expressed his satisfaction with the project. “We are very pleased to receive the planning approval for this fantastic scheme which will transform a long underutilised brownfield site in Salford,” he stated. “Halo West has been designed to be a best-in-class logistics scheme with exceptional sustainability credentials, building specifications and transport connections. The scalability of the development and excellent location will attract a wide range of occupiers which will create new jobs and promote economic growth for the local area.”
The development’s proximity to the M60 motorway ensures easy access to major routes like the M62 and M6, enhancing its appeal to prospective tenants. This connectivity aims to boost the local economy by attracting businesses that require efficient transport links.
Several specialist teams are contributing to the project’s success. AEW is responsible for the architectural design, Langton Development Services is handling quantity surveying, and WSP is managing planning. Other contributors include E3P for ecology, TTHC for highways, SGi for structural engineering, Ameon for mechanical and electrical engineering, BWB for drainage, and RPS for BREEAM assessment.
The Halo West development is poised to redefine the industrial landscape in Eccles, promoting economic growth and job creation while setting new standards in sustainability and connectivity.
