A Birmingham university has expanded its property portfolio with the acquisition of an award-winning city council building.
Aston University has purchased 10 Woodcock Street, which is situated adjacent to its city centre campus. This newly acquired building will house several of the university’s faculties, including business, law, and science, along with new initiatives such as a healthcare hub and business incubator.
The healthcare hub aims to provide preventative health and wellbeing services, showcasing the latest advancements in digital healthcare technology. This facility will serve both university staff and students as well as the wider community.
The new home of the business school will include the CEO Academy and Executive Education Lounge, in addition to business simulation labs. Other facilities in the building comprise a new restaurant, several social spaces, and areas designated for study and group work.
Originally opened by the city council in 2011, 10 Woodcock Street was designed by Associated Architects, spanning 86,110 square feet. It has housed more than 3,000 council employees and has received multiple industry awards, including recognition from the British Council for Offices.
Aleks Subic, Aston University’s vice-chancellor and chief executive, stated, “The purchase of 10 Woodcock Street represents a significant milestone in Aston University’s development. This move aligns with our vision to drive innovation, support business growth, and deliver impactful research and education that transform lives and drive inclusive growth.”
The terms of the purchase have not been disclosed.
