A games developer has unveiled plans to establish a new studio in Newcastle, potentially generating 30 new job opportunities.
Gamevy, a London-based games developer, has announced its intention to open a new studio in Newcastle. This expansion is expected to create up to 30 jobs over the next two years. The company, which already has offices in Berlin and Bilbao, specializes in creating betting games, including titles such as SpinLotto and Be the King.
The decision to set up in the North East was significantly influenced by the company’s positive experience at the 1UP North gaming festival, part of the Great Exhibition of the North. Chief Operating Officer Dan Rough highlighted the company’s ongoing quest for exceptional talent, stating, ‘We have an exceptional tech team – and it means we’re only ever looking for exceptional people to join us.’ He expressed confidence in the talent pool found in Newcastle, adding, ‘We were really impressed by the people we met in Newcastle and we’re convinced that we’re going to build a vibrant, entrepreneurial games studio here.’
Newcastle City Council has welcomed Gamevy’s decision. Cllr Kim McGuiness, cabinet member for culture, sport, and public health, remarked, ‘The fact that this already successful company has decided to set up a presence here is testament to the strength of the digital and tech sectors in this city.’ She further noted that this development is a fitting legacy for the Great Exhibition of the North, which aimed to highlight the strengths of the northern region to a broader audience.
The addition of this new studio is anticipated to bolster Newcastle’s burgeoning digital and tech sectors, showcasing the region’s growing appeal to innovative companies.
