Last summer, a Greater Manchester-based IT support firm, to mark its 20th anniversary, committed to completing 20 good deeds within the community. After successfully fulfilling their pledge, the firm is now encouraging other businesses to support local charities.
The firm’s director commented, “We’ve always been passionate about giving back and making positive change in our community. Even before our 20 Good Deeds initiative started, we were always looking for ways to support non-profits.” He highlighted the firm’s history of engaging with different charities and the special significance of this initiative due to its scope and scale. The director emphasised the importance of business involvement in charitable work, noting that it is a rewarding experience and an opportunity to meet inspiring people.
Throughout their 20 Good Deeds initiative, the firm supported various charities in multiple ways. Many of their efforts began by identifying a charity in need and directly asking what items were required. The team would then purchase and deliver these items to the respective charities. Furthermore, the firm utilised its technical skills for charitable causes, creating a free website for a community association and assisting a local animal rescue with setting up an online fundraiser.
Most of the good deeds were conducted in and around Oldham, although some efforts extended to Leeds, Huddersfield, and even Ukraine. Notably, the firm’s director accompanied a humanitarian aid group to Ukraine, where he assisted in delivering Christmas presents to orphaned children. Locally, the firm also sponsored a staff member’s mother who participated in a charity run, raising funds for a cancer support centre.
The list of charities supported includes humanitarian aid organisations, food banks, animal rescues, and support centres, among others. By sharing their experiences, the firm hopes to inspire other businesses to engage in similar charitable activities.
The director remarked, “Our mission to complete 20 good deeds may be complete, but as a business, our mission to make a positive change is ongoing. We’ll carry on with more good deeds in our community in the future and encourage other businesses to do the same. Charity work is invaluable, but volunteers need our support to continue their efforts.”
The firm’s commitment to charitable work sets an example for other businesses. By highlighting their initiatives and ongoing dedication to making a positive impact, they seek to inspire broader community engagement.
