Sam Mikkelsen, the client solutions director at a major tech recruitment firm, highlighted that the widening skills gap is the most significant challenge facing the UK tech sector. Speaking to an industry publication, he said, “We’re seeing a big spike in demand for software engineer skills, and companies are willing to pay big money to secure the very best graduate talent. This is fuelled largely by the growing FinTech industry and a demand for artificial intelligence and automation skills across many businesses.”
Mikkelsen elaborated that it is not uncommon for strong software engineering graduates to secure roles paying £50k to £60k immediately after university.
